Mobility for Visiting Scholars

Within the framework of the Academic Cooperation Agreements signed by the University of Colima with regional, national, and international Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), we have been making efforts in order to encourage academic exchanges, considering that this activity is a cornerstone for achieving a maximum exploitation of our compared advantages and institutional strengths under a complementary scheme.

Commitments that the University of Colima acquires upon receiving visiting scholars

The financing mechanism for lodging, meals, and transportation that the visiting scholar receives shall be agreed with the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), or else alternative financing sources shall be considered. The University of Colima is able to offer lodging and meals to visiting scholars if the HEIs are willing to do the same with scholars from the University of Colima. For such cases, an agreement must be signed by on behalf of both HEIs.
 
When a scholar visits the University of Colima without being hosted by an agreement or that the agreement does not comprehend such cooperation, the visiting scholar will be assited in the search for lodging.  

The University of Colima will:
  • Validate the relevance of the work plan presented by the visiting scholar and will negotiate the necessary adjustments when needed, in order to have the best positive results for both parts involved.  
  • Guarantee a work space that meets the needs established by the scholar in his/her work plan as well as providing a contact/local scholar.
  • Issue an official certificate of participation for the visiting scholar, provided that the established work plan is completed. 
  • Seekfor reciprocity regarding the number of scholars sent and received, accepting the possibility of a temporary imbalance due to the academic calendars and particular needs of the participating HEIs.
  • Send a letter of acceptance to the scholar within a period of no more than 30 (thirty) calendar days after receiving the application and documents. In case that an application ir refused, the University of Colima will send a letter specifying the reasons of such refusal.
The visiting scholar accepts to:
  • Observe the current rules and regulations applied to local scholars on the host HEI. 
  • Refrain from participation in acts of proselytism or union activities at the host HEI.
  • Submit a final report or partial report (in the case of research projects) of the activities performed at the host HEI.
  • Fulfill all activities established activities in the work plan. In case of non-compliance, the scholar must reimburse the financial support received.
Activities performed by visiting scholars:
  • Participate in short research stays.
  • Teach short specialized courses.
  • Participate in co-teaching practices.
  • Provide counselling and academic tutoring
  • Participate in projects related to directing postgraduate thesis.
  • Collaborate in the design of instructional materials.
  • Collaborate in syllabus design.
  • Participate in keynote speeches, symposiums, seminars, etc.
  • Collaborate in joint research projects.
  • Any other on which participating HEI agree on.


Submission of applications

The completed application must be submitted at the International Affairs and Academic Cooperation Office in the University of Colima with the following documents:
  • Application letter from home institution.
  • Completed application form
  • Summarized Curriculum Vitae.
  • Work plan (not exceeding 3 pages and describing the activities proposed according to type of participation)
  • Letter of intent.
  • Proof of International Health Insurance (after being accepted).
